Q: How do I accept credit cards online?
A. There are lots of ways to accept credit cards online, but one robust, dependable, and well-priced solution for accepting payments online is to use the Intellivative API. In order to use this XML-based API, you will need a web developer who is familiar with XML and web-based applications. If you don’t have a web developer, we’d be happy to recommend one. Take a look at the Intellivative API, then contact us and we will help you get started.
Q: What about debit cards? Can I accept them online too?
A. Yes, absolutely! As long as the debit card has a credit card logo on it, your customers can use it for payment on your website.
Q: Can I use the Intellivative API with my shopping cart? Which shopping carts is the Intellivative API compatible with?
A. Yes, the Intellivative API is compatible with most shopping cart software. If you have a specific cart in mind and you’re wondering if it’s compatible, please contact support. They will be happy to answer all your questions, and, once you decide which cart you’ll be using, they’ll get you set up with an API test account and assist your web developer in getting the Intellivative API up and running with your shopping cart software.
Q: Do you have any payment options for my retail store?
A. Yes, of course. By attaching a small, simple card-swipe device to your computer, you can use the Intellivative Merchant Portal to process all your retail credit, debit, and check payments electronically. All you need is a computer connected to the Internet and you’re ready to go. No credit card terminal to clutter up your counter and no hassles with hardware or software upgrades for that clunky terminal. It’s a much more elegant solution. You can use it on as many computers as you want; you can access it from any computer with an internet connection, and it comes with nice, easy to read transaction reports.
Q: Do you offer any payment solutions for catalog businesses?
A. Yes we do. You can use the Intellivative Merchant Portal to process all your mail or telephone credit, debit, and check payments electronically. With any computer connected to the Internet, you can process mail or telephone (even e-commerce) orders. You don’t have to buy a credit card terminal for each and every clerk. Use it on as many computers as you like at no extra charge, so you can set up a full call center with minimal cost. Also, you can access it from any computer with an internet connection to see how your business is doing–just log in and check your transaction reports.

Q: Which credit cards can I accept with Intellivative?
A: With any Intellivative solution, you can accept any mix of these credit cards–it’s up to you to decide how many you want to offer. Visa and Mastercard are required on all Intellivative credit card accounts, but you can pick and choose the others to suit your business and your customers’ preferred way to pay.

Q: Does Intellivative offer electronic check processing?
A: Yes, electronic check payments is an option that’s open to you when you apply for an Intellivative account.
Q: What about PIN-based debit?
A: Right now we don’t have PIN-based debit–debit cards are processed just like a credit card transaction. However, we are working on it and expect to offer PIN-based debit very soon.
Merchant accounts
Q: What is a merchant account, and why do I need one?
A. A merchant account is an account you open with a financial institution to allow you to accept credit card or electronic check payments from your customers. The money collected from your customers (minus applicable fees) is then deposited directly into your merchant account. You need a merchant account if you want to take credit card payments from your customers using your own business name, and enjoy the convenience of having the money deposited directly into your account.
Q: Does Intellivative offer merchant accounts?
A. Intellivative does not offer merchant accounts, but we’ve partnered with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), and they offer merchant accounts. When you apply for an Intellivative account, you are also applying for a merchant account with RBS.
